A.B. Frost was the premier sporting artist of his time. Born in Philadelphia in 1851, he is renowned for his realistic hunting and shooting prints. This particular one, "Gunning From A Battery" is a VERY rare. It depicts hunting in a sinkbox as it was done in Maryland over 100 years ago. It is still in its original SOLID birdseye maple frame. When we found it, we took it out of the frame and installed a new matte for conservation purposes. In doing so we found that the backing board was stamped January 4, 1900. Try to find a 100+ year old solid birdseye maple frame anywhere - let alone, one with an original A.B. Frost print in it! If you are interested in the history of waterfowling, this is a must have piece of art. A.B. Frost died in 1921, just 14 years before hunting using a sinkbox was outlawed by the Federal Government. Own this print, and you own a very unique piece of waterfowling history.
